In the UK
Membership of our support and information network costs only £25 per family or individual in the UK for the first year and £20 to renew each membership each year
Overseas
Families outside the UK can also join, at a cost of £30 for European residents and £35 for those outside of Europe.
Reduced Rates
If it is difficult for you to pay the full amount and you are in receipt of benefit, you may pay £18 for the year; if you live in Europe concession rates are £25; outside of Europe, concession is £30.
How to Join
As well as offering support to existing members, your subscription helps EO to carry on spreading the word about home education, and also to respond to the thousands of enquiries which it receives each year.
You can join online, or download the form to send by post. Existing members can renew online or may also download a form. If your membership has lapsed, use this online form or download it to send by post. Membership packs for new members are despatched within 14 days of the reciept of your payment. This will include:
Access to Area Contact Support
Over 100 volunteers nationwide can offer support/practical information on home-education, give access to experienced help and guide you through the process and procedures of deregistration and subsequent interaction with the Local Education Authority if required, refer you to specialists within EO if necessary (eg. special needs, dyslexia, school phobia, legal, etc), and give details of local social/educational get togethers with EO families, arranged in many areas
Contact List
Providing access to, and details of our extensive and ever-growing network of members. Many members find this a vital link to the support and information exchange so essential to them as they look for the best way to home educate
Newsletter
A monthly online bulletin (paper copies available on request for members without internet access) providing a regular link with EO and all our members, acting as a forum for communication and discussion, a source of support, inspiration, ideas and resource information, and of course keeping everyone informed of important information concerning home education, such as changes in legislation and research updates
Educating Otherwise Booklet
The booklet sets out some of the main areas of concern and interest for home educators and gives some background information about Education Otherwise
Home Education Card
Some home educating parents are concerned that their children will be picked up by the police during the truancy sweeps carried out by police and educational welfare officers. EO has produced a card which children may carry if they or their parents wish which details the law with regard to home educated children.
Access to Members-only Forum
The popular and busy Members-only forum on the EO website where new members will find discussion forums to chat with other EO members and get support and information from experienced home educators
Concessions Listing
A listing of concessions negotiated for EO Members, such as free entry to an increasing number of places including English Heritage (except on special days), discounts to a number of Zoos, museums and gardens when booking in advance or as part of a group and more.
Family Membership Card
This is useful to negotiate reduction/school discounts on a variety of resources, educational visits etc. This card is also used to gain the various discounts and free entry to museums mentioned above.
Reductions on Educational Resources
A number of online educational services offered reductions to members of Education Otherwise. This currently includes BrainpopsUK (28% discount or 6 months extra free), Conquer Maths (44% discount) and Good Morning Children (Buy 1 year and get 1 year free).
Membership is renewable one year from the month of joining and you will be sent a reminder by email or post.
