Forums

The forums are provided by Education Otherwise for the benefit of home educators and are primarily for informal support and social contact. They offer a virtual meeting point for those home educating or considering home education. Some areas are open to everyone, with other sections - including a children and teens section - reserved exclusively for members of Education Otherwise. See below for information on how to Register.

These forums are not open to LA personnel or students doing research on Home Education. Students doing HE research should email a link to their questionnaires and a brief outline of what they require to EO and we can then post the information on the forum on your behalf. To email us, you can use the contact form and select "Members' Forum".or "Research Contact".

The comments on the forum represent the views of the forum members alone and although it can be very helpful to hear the views and experiences of forum members, the Trustees of Education Otherwise recommend that forum members don’t treat this as a substitute for professional advice.

EO Members Area

There is an EO Members forum with a number of discussion boards. These include: general discussions; introductions; parents new to home education; structured home education; autonomous education; further education; and disability and special needs. There are also a number of boards where families can share things they’ve found useful including "discounts and freebies", "internet links and resources", "items for sale board" and boards for home educators running their own business. Reference boards include back copies of newsletter articles, and copies of the printed materials EO provides for members such as the members and concessions booklets. There are also boards dedicated to the business of the charity including one with minutes from meetings since EO was incorporated.

Public Area – open to non-members

There is a public area of the EO forums where non-EO members can join providing a virtual meeting point for families in the UK and further afield. The discussion boards include a General and Introduction board, one for those new to home education or considering it, a board for single parents, a board for special needs and disabilities and a structured and autonomous educators area.

Children & Young People’s Area

Access to the Children’s Forum is restricted to EO Members Only. Children and young people covered by a family membership can take part in the message boards. These include a board for up to 11s, a board for ages up to 16 and another for ages 16-18. Other popular boards include a roleplaying one, a polls forum, a suggestions board and a Teen Team message board.
